Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
C_-
SUBJECT:
Grand Gulf Nuclear St& Mon Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416/417 File 0272/0498/15525/15526 PRD-79/13, Status Report No. 3, William Powell Valves, Seismic Evaluation AECM-80/68 On September 4, 1979, Mississippi Power & Light Company notified Mr. V. L. Brownlee of your office of a Potentially Reportable Deficiency (PRD) at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station construction site. The defi-ciency concerns William Powell supplied valves which may not meet the seismic requirements of the original purchase order.
Our investigation of this deficiency is still in progress. The requested vendor re-analysis of valve natural frequencies is somewhat behind the projected schedule. Our determination of the safety impli-cations of this deficiency and, thus, the reportability of the matter, requires the results of the vendor re-analysis.
We now expect to provide a final report on this deficiency by August 13, 1980.
Yours truly,
/
