New Jersey. This is the first interim report on this deficiency.

TVA anticipates trans=itting the next report on or before July 7, 1980.

Descrietien of Deficiency During fabrication of the RPV shield wall, it was discovered that there are base metal cracks in the RPV shield wall inner shell plates.

Three cracks have been found each approximately 18 inches in length.

The cause of this deficiency is indeterminate at this ti=e pending the results of the Singleton analysis (see Corrective Action).

Corrective Action A portion of the base metal with a crack in it has been removed and sent to Singleton Materials Engineering Laboratory for metallurgical evaluation. The corrective action and actions required to prevent recurrence will be based on the results of Singleton's evaluation and will be addressed in the final report. Work on this structure has stopped except for cleanup and seme weld repair until this condition has been evaluated and dispositioned.
