The Corps of Engineers (COE) is revicuing geotechnical engineering aspects of the proposed Dailly plant under contract uith DSS. On February 20 and 21,

' 1900 the COE visited the site (see ceno 0. Thorpson to R. Jackson,!Jarch G, 1000, subject: Site Visit to Dailly uith COE Detroit). During the site visit the licensee presented a sumary of the history and existing status of the site.

Follouing the site visit the COE proceeded with the review of geotechnical engineering aspects. Particular effort was concentrated on aspects ' relating to Category I pile driving which is now suspended by f:RC order.

Knight APR 3 1980 llork Scheduled The URC staff will compile the work of the consultants into a draft list of questions and positions which will be submitted to the applicant before April 14, 1900. During the period April 14 to April 25, 1980, a one or two day meeting with be held with the applicant, the staff and its consultants, and the public. Contingent upon the applicant's timely response to our questions and acceptance of our positions, our review of the acceptability of the plans for Categcry I pile driving operations is expected to be completed early in May 1900.

The conplete review by COE necessary for preparation of the geotechnical engineering part of the SER will proceed following resolution of the issues related only to ThescheduleoutlinedinourInteragencyagreementNo.URC-03-79-lG pile driving.

Task 2, will be followed except that a slip of approximately 41/2 nonths has occurred as outlined in our memo fron 0. Thompson to R. Jackson dated. March 6, 1900 subject: Site Visit to Dailly with COE Detroit.

A sumary of our current review schedule for geotechnical engineering revieuwwork is as follows:

a) Before 4/14/30: Subnit draft questions and positions to applicant b) Cetween 4/14/C0 and 4/2S/20: Meet with applicant to resolve outstanding issues c) Early May, CO: Complete resolution of pile driving issues so that authority to resuno pile drivinc can be given by CRC.
