W. G. Counsil letter to D. L. Ziemann dated January 17, 1980.

Gentlemen:

Haddam Neck Plant Systematic Evaluation Program (SEP)

Seismic Reevaluation During a meeting between the NRC Staff and Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO) on May 16, 1979, the Staff raised questions regarding recent developments in the available information concerning the regional geology /

seismology in r,he Moodus vicinity.

In Reference (1), CYAPCO identified that an extensive research effort was in progress to respond to these concerns. CYAPCO's consultant, Weston Geophysical Corporation, has prepared the attached summary of its investigations. This summary is divided into three sections: Geology, Stress, and Seismology. This report addressed all of the Staff's requests with the exception of gravity data for the site area. This data was recently acquired and is currenting being processed.

It is our current intention to docket the requested gravity information at a later date.

The pertinent conclusion from this investigation is that previous seismological determinations of the design basis earthquake for the Haddam Neck Plant are unaffected. No Pleistocene movements can be demonstrated in the Haddam site area, and no evidence of capable faults exists.
