Description of Occurrence:

On July 7, 1975, at 1340 hours0.0155 days <br />0.372 hours <br />0.00222 weeks <br />5.0987e-4 months <br />, P36C makeup pump was started to increase level in "A" core flood tank to-clear level alarm. Pump immediately tripped.

Investigation revealed that pump was frozen. The pump had been aligned for ES standby and was rur, for approximately 6 minutes at 1037 hours0.012 days <br />0.288 hours <br />0.00171 weeks <br />3.945785e-4 months <br /> that date with no problems noted, but it was found during the investigation that the pump did not have a suction during the six (6) minute run. At 1430 hours0.0166 days <br />0.397 hours <br />0.00236 weeks <br />5.44115e-4 months <br /> July 7, 1975, P36A makeup pump was aligned for ES standby with P36B pump in normal. makeup.

l P36C pump was disassembled and inspected. Number 1 impeller and wear ring were frozen; repairs will be made to the pump.

e This occurrence was discussed with all operators and the need for proper communications was stressed.
