Dear Mr. Grier:

Subject:

Maine Yankee I&E Bulletin 79 Status and Scheduled Completion

~ As a result of several telephone conversations on March 6,1980 between Tim Martin of your office and me with our consultants from Earthquake Engineering Services and your consultants from the NRC Headquarters Staff, I am forwarding the following modification to paragraph 4 of Reference (i):

4.

All nonconformance to seismic supports identified in this effort which we determine to affect system operability will be rectified privr to restart from the current outage.

All shims required to meet original design criteria which will be inaccessible af ter startup will be installed prior to restart.

This will leave 30 to 40% of the shimming operation to be completed during March 1980 in accessible areas af ter restart.

These will include shims for gaps equal to or less than 3/8".

We have determined that shims to be added af ter plant restart do not af fect system operability.

If you require additional information on this subject, please contact us at your convenience.

Very truly yours,

. MAINE YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY D. E. Moody Manager of Operatio s
