Thank you for your recent letter concerning the debate question.
The Nuclear Regulatory Comission is an independent agency established to ensure that, if nuclear power is used for comercial purposes, the public health and safety and the environment are protected. Because we are a regulatory agency, the information we have on nuclear energy is, for the most part, highly technical in nature and related to specific commercial nuclear facilities and/or safety or environmental issues that relate to more than one of these facilities.
However, we are enclosing a Reactor Safety Fact Sheet that contains an overview of our safety program.
