MEMORANDUM FOR: James P. Knight, Assistant Director for Engineering, Division of Systems Safety FROM:

John F. Stolz, Chief, Light Water Reactors Branch No.1, Division of Project Management

SUBJECT:

STATUS OF GEOSCIENCES BRANCH REVIEW EFFORT - SKAGIT Your memorandum of February 13, 1980 to Steven A. Varga, reconinendeo that the review of the Skagit application be curtailed pending extensive studies by

'the applicant. We concur in this recommendation except for our response to Puget's February 15, 1980 letter, PLN-227, which requests clarification of our requests for infonnation. We assume that our requests form the bases for the extensive studies.

Although a Puget representative has informed us by phone regarding the likeli-nood of relocating the Skagit plant, Puget still would like to meet with us in April to clarify matters regarding the Skagit site (PLN-227). We suspect that this will be the only effort on the Skagit application remaining in 1980 or until we hear from Puget regarding relocation. We are waiting for Puget to propose a meeting date and will coordinate with you so that GSB and USGS representatives will be available.

I think it would be prudent to alert USGS about the pending meeting so that the can prepare for it.
