Dear Mr. Keppler:

DOCKET NOS. 50-266 AND 50-301 FURTHER RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN 79-14 POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 IE Bulletin 79-14 requires licensees to verify for safety-related piping systems that the as-built systems conform to the as-designed seismic analysis and acceptance criteria.

The purpose of this submittal is to provide a progress report on our Bulletin compliance program. This report is our fifth submittal and is a supplement to our responses of August 1, September 7, November 2, and December 20, 1979.

As reported in our December 1979 submittal, essentially all of the piping common to both nuclear units and that located inside the Unit 1 containment structure had been inspected and

,. judged operable. Our December submittal also provided a four page table showing the status of the pipe line stress analysis and pipe support analysis that was being pursued as a result of our program.

Attached hereto is our updated analytical schedule that shows the status of our program as of February 29, 1980; the attached schedule is quite similar to that contained in our December submittal. The attached schedule shows that the piping stress analysis has been completed for 52 drawings (61%) and the pipe supports have been evaluated for 26 (31%) of these pipe lines. While this does not appear to be substantial progress with respect to our December submittal, some calculations previously reported as "DONE" have been determined to require further work when reviewed and checked in detail. Thus, in these cases, the attached schedule presents a date and we believe that this schedule can be maintained.

The Spring 1980 Unit 2 refueling outage is presently I scheduled to commence in early April of this year. During this

-outage,.the remainder of the plant piping systems will be inspected. Accordingly, we anticipate.that our next submittal will be forwarded to NRC in May 1980. If.you require any addi-tional information at this time, please contact us.
