DOCKET NOS. 50-266 AND 50-301 QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM FOR SHIPPING PACKAGES POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations at Section 71.51 requires that licensees estaslish, maintain, and execute a quality assurance prcgram which satisfies each of the applicable criteria specified in Appendix E to 10 CFR Part 71, " Quality Assurance Criteria for Shipping Packages for Radioactive Material".
This section also requires a description of this program to be filed with your office.
We recently were notified by the NRC, Office of In spection and Enforce-ment, Region III, that you had no record of Wisconsin Electric Power Company having filed this quality assurance program description.
This letter it to inform you that a description of the quality assurance program for the Point Beach Nuclear Plant may be found as Appendix H to the Final Facility Description and Safety Analysis Report (FFDSAR).
On June 30, 1978, we submitted Amendment No. 24 to the FFDSAR.
A copy of this submittal is enclosed.
This amendment included our commitment to increase the scope and applica-bility of FFDSAR Appendix H to include radioactive material packaging as required by 10 CFR Section 71.51.
This amendment was filed with Mr. Edson G. Case, then acting director of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.
It had not occurred to us that you would not receive a copy of this filing as a matter of course.
In his letter dated February 4, 1980, Mr. Charles E.
MacDonald requested that we provide the date of NRC approval of our Appendix B, Part 50, QA program.
This program was approved by the NRC by letter from Mr. George Lear dated July 20, 1977.
