MAR 101980 Docket No. 50-320 Mrs. Clarice H. Parsons 899 Clearmount Road York, Pennsylvania 17403

Dear Mrs. Parsons:

I appreciate the concerns expressed in your letter of January 21, 1980 about disposal of radioactive waste and other matters relative to nuclear power, particularly in view of your proximiti to the Three Mile Island Plant.

You will be interested to know that we are preparing a programmatic environ-mental impact statement on the decontamination of Unit 2 at the plant and disposal of the radioactive wastes resulting from the March 28, 1979 accident.

The primary objective of the statement is to provide an overall assessment of the proposed activities which will aid this Commission in assuring that the clean-up of THI-2 is done consistently with public health and safety.

Inasmuch as the impact statement will address most of the subjects of interest to you, a copy will be mailed to you when it is available.

Sincerely, Do.ald E. Sells, Acting Chief Environmental Projects Branch 2 Division of Site Safety and Environmental Analysis I

January 21, 1980 Mr. Daniel R. Muller, Acting Director Division of Site and Safety and Environmental Analysis Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation NaC Washington, D. C.

20555

Dear Sir:

The disposal of radio-active waste within the State of Pennsylvania should not be tolerated by the citizens or officials of our state.

Before granting a license to utilities to operate a nuclear power plant, the Federal Government should have been able to meet all emergencies and be able to solve any and all problems that arise; but they failed miserably in coping with the TMI disaster and the solving of the clean-up.

We were told dthis could not happen", but it did and everyone was unprepared and to date have no solutions.

Malfunctions are still taking place in various plants and no answer as to the disposal of waste.

Why should citizens of Pennsylvania be subjected to

' experimentation?

Nuclear power is a failure and expensive and I suggest that all plants be closed down and convert to alternate sources of energy.

I, as many others, object to any releases of radio-active material in any form into the atmosphere of Susquehanna River; also the storage of radio-active waste within the State of Pennsylvania or surrounding areas.

Yours truly,

$W m
