As you know, the Nuc1 car Regulatory Commission's Special Inquiry Group (SIG) on the Accident at Three Mile Island recently provided the results of its work to the Commission. The extensive findings and recommendations of the report included a number of items related to emergency preparedness planning around nuclear power plants and to the Federal role in responding to nuclear power plant emergencies. A considerable number of these items deal with responsibilities that have been assigned to FEMA by the President's December 7, 1979, directive. Enclosure 1 to this letter is an index of the recommendations which we believe either directly relate to FEMA responsibili-ties, or relate to areas in which FEMA has a coordinating role. 'Ihree com-plete sets of the SIG report and the February 6, 1980 NRC staff analysis of the report are being provided to you under separate cover.
The recommendations identified in Enclosure 1 are provided for FEMA's information and consideration.
If FEMA decides to take action as a result of these recommendations, we would appreciate being informed.
