November 26, 1979 President James Carter The White House Washington, D. C.

Res Freeze on construction perm,it.s for. nuclear..po.wer P 3 s.

1

Dear Mr. President:

My feeling on the above " freeze." is__that; it.is._..tll-advised.

As a small businessman in a democratic society, I have faith in my fellow businessmen that they can im-plemedt nuclear power for our country in a safe manner.

I also know that without nuclear power,' increased use of coal, and deregulated oil and gas prices, we, as a country, will be at the mercy of other countries.

Our country has prospered through innovation and free enterprise for over 200 years.

I think it can con-tinue to do so.

I do not want haphazard practices employed in grant-ing nuclear power permits, but, I believe that, if we apply the correct amounts of technology and expertise, construction permits can be granted on a plant by plant basis thereby enabling our country to take the first step toward solving our critical energy problem.
