Docket No. 50-312 i
r/
Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating 4
5 Station, Unit No. 1
Dear Mr. Reid:
In response to your letter of May 18, 1977 regarding the need for information on reactor vessel. materials, we have requested the Babcock
& Wilcox Company, the supplier of the reactor vessel for Rancho Seco Unit No.1, to prepare the information requested in the enclosure to your letter. As you know, most of the requested information has previously been submitted in connection with the review for our participation in the integrated reactor vessel surveillance prog.7m (RVSP) on B&W 177 fuel assembly plants. As a part of the activity associated with the integrated P. VSP the weld material information is presently under certification review to assure all weld wire and flux heats and lots used for the surveillance programs are accurately identified.
Also, B&W will shortly begin work on a study to investigate the uncertainty in the chemical composition of certain of the weld materials as a part of the B&W integrated surveillance program.
Since the present schedules for these activities are not compatible with the 60-day response requested in your letter, we request an extension until August 31, 1977 to supply the requested information. This response will not include the weld metal chemistry information which will be supplied in a later sub-mittal upon completion of the B&W study.
Sincerely yours, L.v. % tt a
