It is our company's position that the stand you have taken on the nuclear power plants in creating a freeze is ill-timed and poor business. 'Ihe sooner we get these plants into operation, the quicker our country will find less need for foreign oil.
In the past year oil prices have risen approximately 60c~c, thus creating great hardships on small businesses like ours and on the country's econcxny.
We feel that the presidential cmmission which investigated the 'Ihree 1111e Island accident had a much better solution in suggesting, instead of a freeze, that each nuclear unit be considered on an individual basis.
'Ibere is a real need for other ways of producing electricity than by the burning of our dwendling oil reserve.
In this day and time, nuclear power is far more advanced than any other alternate source of energy, thus creating a necessity for its use and further developnent.
I feel confident that in our free enterprise system that if our utility companies had a better alter-native they would use it.
'Ihe vast anount of money and time spent in engineer-ing, development and construction of these plants is placed back in our economy, unlike foreign oil which only helps our already staggering inflation level and trade deficit.
We would prefer to see you re-evaluate your noratoriun on new nuclear power plants and place then on a plant by plant evaluation for their credibility and safety.
