Dear Mr. Harlev:
NOTIFICATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE WITH EFFLUENT LIMITATIONS -. NPDES PErdtIT NO. TN0026450 - SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT
,Det.criptfon of the dischure,e--Discharge No. 019 - Service Building Sump Effluent. A sample collected and analyzed on March 5,1980, conta1ued 104 mg/l of suspended solids, exceeding the maximum permit limitation of 100 mg/1.
Cause and period of the noncowliance--Small volumes of cleanup wautes (cleaning of floors, tools, paint brushes, etc.) containing i
high solids concentrations are periodically discharged to the
" service building sump. These solids slowly accumulate in the i
surep and have been mechanically removed in the past.
Sters taken to prevent recurrence of the noncomplying discharge--The j
sump was mechanically cleaned on March 12, 1980, and measures to l
minittize the input of solids into the sump or to reroute this discharge through other treatment devices are being evaluated. Once the alt'er-natives have been evaluated the necessary measures will be instituted.
Sincerely yours, Mohamed T. El-Ashry, Ph.D.'
