This condition was determined to be reportable based on the nozzle specified desi6 n loads imposed on the coolers. It is conceivable that if the actual loads imposed on the supports are less than the design values, then the cooler supports will be adequate. The Architect-Enginebr for the Midland Plant has supplied the actual nozzle loads to B&W for their use. These nozzle loads will be analyzed for their effcets on the support structure to determine if modifications are required to the cooler's support system.
B&W made a 10 CFR 21 report on the same subject on February 28, 1980. A copy of their written report is enclosed. This report provides detailed information concerning the overstress condition.
