Mr. Karl V. Seyfrit, Director U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region IV 611 Ryan Plaza Drive Suite 1000 Arlington, TX 76011
Dear Mr. Seyfrit:
River Bend Station - Units 1 & 2 Refer to:
RIV Docket Nos. 50-458/IE Bulletin 79-02, Rev. 2 50 h59/IE Bulletin 79-02, Rev. 2 Having reviewed the Revision 2 to IE Bulletin 79-02, our original response to items 1 h as stated in our letter of July 10, 1979 remains applicable.
In our July 10, 1979 letter we stated,.
"the River Bend design uses embedded plates in concrete valls for pipe supports, thus base plates with concrete expansion bolts (as. addressed in IE Bulletin 79-02) are not in our present design."
Our response to item 5 of Revision 2 is that the River Bend design criteria states that concrete block walls in seismic Category I and II structures shall not be designed to support pipes or any systems.
Also specification 210 371 states that no anchor holes (for concrete expansion anchors) shall be drilled into concrete block walls.
Our response to item 6 of Revision 2 is that the specification of expansion anchor bolts using structural steel shapes (angles or i

channels) instead of base plates is not presently called for in the River Bend design.
If a need should arise to use structural shapes, the design vill be in the same manner as plates with respect to flexibility and in accordance with IE Eulletin 79-02 Fevision 2.
This completes our response to IE Eulletin 79-02 Revision 2.
