Dear Mr. Muller:
We are writing about our concerns regarding the decontamina' tion and disposal of radioactive wastes from the TMI nuclear power plant.
Our main concern has to do with the fact that no one is sure about the effects of low level radiation on various forms of life.
It seems to us, therefore, that any release of these low levels of radiation must be avoided until the safety questions have been answered.
We are opposed to the release of any contaminated water into the Susquehanna River.
Once again, it is unclear what the effects of small amounts of radiation are.
Also, there are questions about the buildup of radiation through the food chain.
Since the Susquehanna flows directly into the Chesapeake Bay, and the bay is a major food source, any risk of contaminating the bay's inhabitants and plant life is too great a risk.
We believe the proper response to these concerns will mean that the TMI nuclear plant will have to remain closed permanently.
While the financial costs to Met Ed may be great as a result of that decision, we feel it is the only totally safe decision to make.
To decide otherwise will mean greater health costs.
Sincerely, O
b iaxs/Nhggy
