This is in response to your February 18, 1971 letter which enclosed a letter from Mr. and Mrs.-Roy M. Hiendlmayr expressing their concern about the proposed Davis-Besse nuclear power plants l
In response to a number of inquiries on the proposed plant, we have pre-pared the enclosed summary which describ'es the present status of the pro-ceedings concerned with the licensing.of the plant and the controls that the AEC will have over the plant if,it is granted a permit for construction and, eventually, operation.

In addition, Mr. and Mrs. Hiendla yr may be interested in the enclosed copy of a statement by Mr. Lester Rog'ers, Director of AEC's Division of Radio-logical and Environmental Protection, at the public hearing in Port Clinton, Ohio, which discusees the sources of radioactivity in affluents from nuclear power plants, the development of radiation protection standards, and AEC's regulations for the control of levels of radioactivity from these nuclear power plants, including me'asures to keep releases of radioactivity to the environment as low as practical.
