Dear Mr. Kohn:
This is in reply to your letter dated December 5,1979 and to your subsequent letter dated January 21, 1970, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, access to information concerning nuclear research activities at Brown University during the period 1940 to the present; grants, proposals or reports filed with the Commission; and your opportunity to examine the entire NRC files on all Brown University nuclear activities.
In response to your two requests, and pursuant to your numerous telephone conversations with Mr. Frank W. Karas of my staff, all documents contained in the files listed in Appendix A are enclosed (total 996 pages). These documents are in addition to those previously provided to you in response to your FOIA request number F01A-79-511.
f Also enclosed is a one page copy of notes on Rhode Island dated March 5, 1963 which was prepared by the then State Relations Branch.
As you were informed by Mr. Karas in a telephone conversation, Rhode Island became an Agreement State effective on January 1,1980, under section 274 of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended.
The records of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Region I Office of Inspection and Enforcement at King of Prussia, Pennsylvania have been transferred to the State of Rhode Island.
The NRC does not have any authority to issue Grants and the NRC does not have any contracts with Brown University.
We have now provided you with copies of all records in the NRC's files concerning Brown University.
This completes action on your request.
