Descristien of Preble=:

L on 10/13/77, the electromatic relief valve was tested after the completion of repairs as outlin-21 in ST2 #369. Se velve v2: cycled six ti=es succes:-

fully. On the seventh test cycle the pilot valve did not close. De ERV was isdated and permitted to cool down while waiting for Crosby representa-

-tives.

Crosby rep., Walt Conroy, arrived and the pilot valve asse=bly was re=oved l

from the =ain valve. Disasse=bly of the pilot valve revealed that the pilot valve stem had stuck open due to the close tolerance causing a binding con-dition between the O.D. of the stem and the I. D. of the pilot valve no::le.

Also, a 3"*M stal particle was found in the pi1~ot stem /no::le are'a.

Sub-sequent cleaning of the inlet piping to the ERV revealed this same type of metal particles.

"Ihe Crosby representative furnished a detailed draving of the pilot valve stem requiring a dic=eter of.37h This was changed to read.373 diameter

.373 *

.372 "by the Cresby rep., and the stes was modified accordingly by TEco Maintenance

--under the direction of the Crosby rep. This modification resulted in opening the clearance between the sten and the no::le thus eli=inating the binding.

'The nc::le was also re=ed out with a re=er the se-e size, no caterial was removed.

All parts were cleaned and asse bled. The solenoid linkage was adjusted to drop the adjust:isnt bolt more squarely on the disc actuator.

In addition, the adjust =ent bolt sEs positiened to cove the pilot valve stes off the seat a maxi =us of.125".

It had been moving off the seat sc=e.375".

The pilot valve vEs tdsreirvfth5dt ~ pre'ssure by actuating the solenoid three ti=es.

The valve v s testei assin twice with 5 cr 6 se::nds between tes:s.

..Ihis was followed by testing the valve five more times assuring actuation each time-b'f a cre-2.utre-de127 Tit-Jeen tests. The valve was tested with a Jressure of 1100 psig.on_the.second and third occasion.

Dear Ter:

y: The referenced instruction r.nnual pertains te the pressurizer power relief valve R02A. Sectica h of the - nal describes the testing and adjust =ent Procedure for the valve, while section 4.2 pertains to adjustments fo.- ~ Proper pilot valve actuation. A critical adjust =ent is that described in step k.2.2.2, Setting of the Adjusting Salt (P/3 31). All adjustments should be made per the instruction manual, however, proper adjustment of the solenoid adjustment bolt can be further checked as follevs : Move the solenoid plu=:er to *ull streke by pushing to the r.ar4mm position. The Disc Actuator Pilot Valve (19) vill be depressed by the adjusting bolt (31) with the plunger in this position If the adjusting bolt (31) vere to be backed off a distance of approximate-ly 5/32" (which eculd be accc=plished by allering the plunger to drop from its full upward position), the adjusting bolt (31) should be just beginning to =cke centact with the disc actuator pilot valve (19). Should the eendition pn vail, with the adjusting bolt (31) making contac: vith, or is moving the disc pilot velve (19) belev the free position, the adjustr.ent is not correct and should be re-set per instructien I-1115, Parn. h.2.2.2.
