1.

Proposed Regulatory Guide 1.XXX, " LOOSE PARTS DETECTION PROGRAM FOR THE PRIMARY SYSTEM OF LIGHT-WATER-COOLED REACTORS" and 2.

Proposed Regulatory Guide 1.XXX, " INSERVICE MONITORING OF THE GROSS LATERAL MOTION OF THE CORE SUPPORT rARREL IN PRESSURIZED WATER REACTORS VIA EXCORE NEUTRON FLUX MEASUREMENTS," and after considerable discussion referred both items back to the staff for additional work and resubmittal, taking into account the Committee's comments including:

a.

Additional justification is required supporting the need as constrasted to the desirability of issuing these proposed

guides, b.

Additional discussion and justification is required as to whether or not these guides should apply to BWRs as well as PWRs.

c.

Additional justification will be required as to any reporting requirements included in the proposed guides rather than in the appropriate regulatory guides dealing with reporting requirements.

d.

Additional discussion, justification, and recommendations concerning backfit consideratioc.s will be required.

3.

Proposed Revision to Regulatory Guide 8.8, "INFORMATION RELEVANT TO ASSURING 111AT OCCUPATIONAL RADIATION EXPOSURES AT NUCLEAR l

POWER PLANTS UNDER REVIEW AND CONSTRUCTION: AND OPERATING,"

and recommended approval subject to the following comments.

The Implementation Section should utill:e the standard l

at the usual date of 8 months after publication for comment.

and recommended approval subject to the following comments:

The Introduction should indicate that for applicable plants, the provisions of this appendix will be applied to the extent practicable and necessary.

b.

In the discussion on alternatives, the consideration of a
