l k In the plant staff review of the above drawings, it appears that nearly ali of the instrument racks located in the Auxiliary and Fuel Handling Buildings of I' r Unit 2 are located in areas where high radiation levels are expected.

In I

h(

radiation level is greater than 3R/hr--as indicated on dwgs. 2564 and 2565.

It i

many cases these instrument racks are located in areas where the expected was also noted that the Waste Gas Ccmpressors are located adjacent to the Waste Gas Decay Tanks, where the expected r'adiation level is also expected to be greater than 3R/hr as indicated on dwg. 2565.

The locating of equipment and instrumentation in areas where high radiation levels could ex*'

is considered unacceptable based on the time required for calibration and wintenance, experienced on Unit 1.

It is recor= ended that GPU direct Burns & Roe to evaluate the location of all instrumentation and equipment throughout Unit 2, based on expected radiation levels, and consideration should be given to relocating or shielding all neces'sary equipment to provide for calibration and maintenance without undue radiation hazard and exposure.

It should be noted that on Unit I nearly all similar instrumentation is wall mounted, external to the equipment cubicle, and also that the Waste Gas Compressors are in a separate cubicle frcm the decay tanks, based on the above considerations.

If there are any grastions, please aovise.
