Dear Seuntor Cranston:

I believe that the NRC is about to make a decision as to whether the Three Mile Island acci-dent falls into the category of an " extraordinary nuclear occur.ence," or ENO.

I urge that you ask them to designate it an EHO.

The. reports'are indicat.ing that even now, six months later, tne full toll, including material costs, has not been grasped or assessed, nor could it possibly be.

Surely, anything requiring so much time and consideration by the NRC must be extraordinary.

As is well known, much data was unavailable in that accident, since metere ceasuring radiation were operating beyond their maximum range. This in itself would seem to be beyond the expected or tne usual.

If the accident is called an ENO, tnen those unfortunate Americans wno had tne misf ortune of having one of tnose plants nearby, and having an accident-which has to happen sometime, can at least get come money frou the insurance, as limited as it now is.

(That insurance is too little.

560 million wouldn't even buy a tenth of Sonoma county, let alone Harrisburg! Maybe it needs changing.)

So, I urge you to remind tne members of the NRC that as public servants they are expected to see to it that our health and lives and property are correctly safeguarded.

'.Ye can't have it sacrificed in any measure.

That's one of those things that goes along with the right of Americans to life.

I want you to let them know how they should see tuis as essential for the country, in thC long-run more' essential.than temporary needs or gains in the small perspective.

Hell, if tne soviets want to ruin their Land with radiation poisons, let them do it.

We don't have to be that stupid and besides we have rights which they don't.

So they'll just have to buy our grain at a higner price!

Please inform me of your action.

Sincerelg.
