!ii Dear 2.

Hendrie:

J!!

I?

Following recent newspaper stories concerning the release of f:'

Krypton 85 into the atmosphere in the Three Mile Island area, my office received numerous letters from constituents who are h

worried and upset over potential health and environmental E.':

hazards from the release of this gas.

[F t L.p.

In one press account, Richard Vollmer of your staff was quoted, F

"We're exploring alternatives, but right off hand, I don't know of any, other than either storing it in the containment b.

building for years and years, or slowly venting it out."

[.

Cn behalf of my constituents, I am asking for an explanation cf the possible problems that could result from such a release, background facts on the gas itself and other alternatives being considered in the ongoing clean-up process.

i Please hear in mind that the residents within a 25 mile radius of Three Mile Island are skeptical of constant referrals to phases such as "below acceptable levels" and "least harmful,"

which implies there is some harm.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I am looking forward to your timely reply.

Co Jially, e
