Dear Mr. Reid:
Your letter dated January 24, 1979 required additional infonnation on the District's proposed Class II Instrumentation modification.
Listed below are your requests and the District's response.
Request 1 With regard to Class II Instrumentation required for safe shutdown and cooldown, indicate your commitment to the ic' lowing positions:
a.
The cabling and equipment for the two instrument paths will be located in separate fire areas where possible.
b.
Where the cabling or equipment must be in the same fire area, maximum separation will be provided; and c.
Where the redundant cabling or equipment must be in proximity to each other, appropriate barriers and/or fire protection will be provided to preclude a fire from affecting both instrumentation paths.
Response 1 The District is committed to designing a system that is in agreenent with position a, b, and c above.
Request 2 Provide details of the proposed modifications to include:
a.
Drawings showing equipment location and cable routing for the two instrumentation paths; and I

Description and/or sketches of protection where redundant cables or equipment are in proximity to each other.
Response 2 The District is still determining the routing of cables and location of equipment.
This portion of the design will be completed by July 1,1979 when it will be submitted to you for your review.
The design modification for Class II instrumentation required for safe shutdown and cooldown is being performed with the commitments listed in Request #1 as design criteria.
To prevent a major impact in the design activity please comment on the acceptability of our criteria within 30 days.
