GSI B-56, " DIESEL RELIABILITY" l

Based on the discussion at the January (see, attached attendance list)g between 28 1988 coordination meetin our respective staff representatives we have l
formulated a proposed schedule for NRR support of the RES proposed resolution l
of Generic Safety Issue (GSI) B-56 in 1988. At the meeting, the schedule and j
work plan for completing a proposal for resolving B-56 were discussed. The proposal is scheduled for submission to CRGR in July 1988. We note the i
importance of the timely resolution of B-56 (a high priority issue) due to its j
interdependent relationship with the " Station Blackout Rule" which is before
]
the Commission for enactment. We have established the following NRR assign-

ments and schedule to support RES development of the proposed resolution of i

Af ter the draft proposed resolution package for GSI B-56 is assembled by RES, we will be prepared to review the package and provide corrients within three weeks of receipt of the package. Subsequently, we wou':1 provide concurrence on the final version of the package prepared for CRGR review within three weeks of our receipt of the package.
We understand that the target dates for the proposed and the final version of the proposed B-56 resolution package are May 1988 and July 1988 respectively.
In this regard please note that maintenance of the aforementioned NRR schedule is contingent upon our receipt in a timely way of all necessary and pertinent RES information and materials.
Questions concerning this matter should be referred to Bob Colmar (X23076).

SERKIZ RES/NRR COORDINATION MEETING B-56 EDG RELIABILITY PURPOSE OF MEETING:
- 1) Identi f y regulatory documents which require revi sion to resolve B-56 teg RG 1.108, RG 1.9, SRPs, tis, TECH SPECS).
Example: RGs 1.108 and 1.9 need to be revised f or consistency (with resolution of USl A-44 RG 1.155),
and NSAC 108 definitions.j-2-84)
Recent B-56 meetings indicate that RG 1.108 should be totally scrapped, or totally rewrz tten.
- 2) Identif y responsible staf f and obtain commi tment of level of effort and time required to complete regulatory revisions by 4/30/89.
Note: Resol uti on of USI A-44 stated that B-56 would be resolved in FYBB.
