The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by State Agreements Program staff as of this date.

SUBJECT:
Complaint By Union Official On September 20, 1980 OSP was informed by U.S. NRC, Region II, that the President of the International Chemical Workers Union has filed a formal complaint with the Administrator of OSHA concerning radiation safety at the New Uales Division, and the Administrator of OSHA is expected to refer the matter to the Chairman, U.S. NRC.
This refers to an incident described in Notice of Non-Routine Event No. 80-36. The State of Florida is continuing to investigate this incident and has informed OSP that a Union representative has accompanied State inspectors on the last several visits to the facility.
Media interest has occurred in Florida. Neither the NRC nor the State of Florida plans to issue a press release.
