April 23, 198C OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONE R Mr. Joseph C. Griffin Manager, Training Projects BWR Training BWR Training Center General Electric Co.

7655 E. Collins Road Morris, Illinois 60450

Dear Joe:

I want to thank you for your many courtesies and for your expert advice and instruction during my visit to the BWR Training Center last Sunday.

It was a most useful and instructive session for me.

I learned a number of things I had not appreciated before about the Dresden 2/3 line of boilers, particularly with regard to the capability of this line of machines to take care of themselves after severe transients or loss of power. The Dresden control room arrangement and the use of the " green board" concept is very interesting.

I thought it a particularly well laid out control room arrangement, with one or two exceptions such as the stretch to see the period instruments when one has both hands on the rod control switches.

I very much appreciate your willingness there to take me on a Sunday, especially since it turned out to be such a fine day and one that you would have enjoyed much more with your family.

Please give Don Janecek my regards and mv sympathies on t -ajnfortunate death of his father.

Be t regards, oseph. Hendrie Co-ssioner
