Mr. James P. O'Reilly, Director -

Office of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region II - Suite 3100 101 Marietta Street Atlanta, Georgia 30303 C

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Enclosed is a report which discusses the problem of incorrect pipe stresses calculated (per IE Bulletin 79-14) by the TPIPE computer program. The problem is generic to our Browns Ferry, Sequoyah, Watts Bar, and Bellefonte Nuclear Plants IE Bulletin 79-14 evaluations.

Corrective actions, which TVA is taking to rectify the problem, are also discussed in the enclosure.

The enclosed information was requested by Leo Modenos of your staff during a March 19 and 20, 1980, inspection at our Knoxville offices.

If you have any questions, please call Jim Domer at FIS 854-2014.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY
