Subject:

10CFR50.55(e) Deficiency Report on A-36 Raceway Hanger Support Plate Steel.

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This letter is submitted as Detroit Edison's final report on the subject A-36 Steel purchased through L.K. Comstock for use at the Fermi II Site.

Investigations have revealed that the nonconforming material is limited to one heat number, 8018 22820, furnished by Bethlehem Steel. All supports which vere fabricated from that heat have been located and will be removed. Replacement supports will be of ASTM A516, Grade 70 plate material.

Removal work was initiated March 21, 1980, and will continue as appropriate with the construction schedule. Deviation Disposition Requests (DDR), have been generated and is the measure being employed to provide control of the noncon-forming supports until they are removed.

Further details of this investigation are contained in Detroit Edison Letter F2S80-380 with attached report, which is available at the Fermi II Site for review.

Sincerely yours, N]
