SUBJECT:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station File 0260/L-401.0/M-633.0 IE Bulletin 80-03 Evaluation AECM-80/55 Mississippi Power & Light Company has completed its review of IE Bulletin 80-03, particularly in regard to any impact on the filter units supplied for the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. Tray type charcoal absorber cells are used in the Control Room Filter Trains.

A visual inspection of six Control Room filter train tray type charcoal absorber cells (Vendor: Farr Company, Cell S/Ns - 03973, 03980, 03982, 03984, 03987, 03988) on February 26, 1980 revealed the following conditions:

1)

Screen rivets have been replaced by spot welding on all trays.

2)

Maximum spacing between spot welding is two inches and the majority of the spot welds are on one and one-half inch spacing.

3)

Screen casings are securely fastened to the frame of the cell

{

and no separations were observed.

4)

The cells are individually sealed in a plastic bag, securely packed in a cardboard carton, stacked on pallets, and stored in a dry location, thereby ensuring adequate protection.

5)

One tray had a slight wrinkle on the screen of one side of the cell, but this did not affect the integrity of the unit.
