Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
On November 15, 1979 and again on November 28, 1979 Westinghouse Electric Corporation submitted letters to the NRC Office of Inspection and Enforcement and Division of Operating Reactors. The letters concerned a reportable'10CFR50.59 for operating plants and a reportable 10CFR50.55(e) for plants under construction.
Alabama Pcwer Company has evaluated the rod drop analysis and has concluded that this constitutes a reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e). A 10CFR21 evaluation has also been conducted, and no substantial safety hazard exists.
In letter NS-TMA-2167, Westinghouse advised that a review is being made of analytic and hardware solutions. Recomendations are to be rnde as part of a topical report to be submitted to the NRC in mid-1980.
Alabarca Power Company will review the topical report and take approoriate action for the Farley Nuclear Plant-Unit 2.
