Please refer to our letter of December 19,1979 regarding imports of irradiated reactor fuel through Portsmouth, Virginia.

Braed on a review of available information, we have detemined that there are no practical alternatives to the port of Portsmouth that

are not located in heavily populated areas.

1 Accordingly, under the provision of 10 CFR 73.37(a)(3) the route through Portsmouth, Virginia is approved provided that the additional protective measures specified in 10 CFR 73.37(d) are maintained.
