Gentlemen:
Haddam Neck Plant Westinghouse (W) Low Pressure Turbine Disc Integrity This letter is in response to a verbal request from the NRC Staff.
Subsequent to submittal of Reference (2), Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO) has further investigated the subject problem in relation to the Haddam Neck Plant. As discussed with the Staff in a telephone conversation this morning, CYAPCO has concluded, with the concurrence of Westinghouse Electric Corporation, that a safety concern does not exist at the Haddam Neck Plant.
Details of the arguments presented verbally over the last two weeks will be docketed in future correspondence. Until such documentation and review by the Staff, CYAPC0 has reduced load on the Haddam Neck turbine to limit turbine overspeed to 20% of nominal speed. This has.been accomplished by reduction in power to 88% of the rated 605 MWe, or 532.4 MWe.
Very truly yours, CONNECTICUT YANKEE ATOMIC POWER COMPANY W. G.VCounsil Vice President By:
