Mr. William H. Blanchard 4307 Rosario Road Woodland Hills, California 91364

Dear Mr. Blanchard:

Thank you for your letter to the Chaiman regarding operator training, dated February 16, 1980.

Training centers that have nuclear power plant simulators have been in use in operator training programs since 1969.

Presently, there are eight facilities operating and several are under construction. These centers are used for initial training of new operators and for requali-fication training of licensed operators.

We are revising our requirements so that the simulators will be programmed for multiple failures to provide for more stressful situations.

Thank you for your interest in our program.

Sincerely, Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation
