PEVIEW 0F LICENSE AENDENT APPLICATION DATED 21, 1979 DECEfBER I.* Background Combustion Engineering (CE) by application dated December 21, 1979 requested the maximum enrich be limited to less than 20% gU.t of uraniun in the Nuclear Laboratories At the present time CE is authorized to possess 230 in the Nuclear Laboratories.
0 of any enrichment II.
Discussion A.
Nuclear Criticality Safety The maximus safe batch size of 350g con authorized for the fuels of any enrichment >5% gqgned 2350 currently
- U will be retained for ~the fuels >5% and <20% 2350 (conservative). The maximum safe batch 740g contained 2350 for fuels 45% 2350 enrichment will be retained. Since only nuclear criticality safety controls and procedures currently authorized will be used, there will be no significant change in nuclear criticality safe ty.
B.
Radiation Safety and Environmental Effects authorized will be used, there will be neither a significant c radiological safety nor in the environmental effects.
C.
General The amendment appitcation dated December 21, 1979 was discussed with Mr. Jerome Roth, Region I (IE), principal inspector of the CE facility on February '
1980 He foresaw no safety or environmental-related problem with limi
