111 Cam 4 Stuc4.S4c4a A&ud.noga410304 98F6900 January 25, 1980 Hon. John P. Ahearne, Chairman Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 205555

Dear Mr. Ahearne:

After considering testimony at a public hearing held by the Public Services Committee of Community Board No.1, Staten Island, on December 27, 1979, and after reviewing written material submitted in connection therewith by Consolidated Edison, The Power Authority of the State of New York, The Union of Concerned Scientists and the New York Public Interent Researr h Group, we unanimously resolved, on January 8, 1980, to request that you schedule a public hearing and determination on the petition of the Union of Concerned Scientists relative to the nuclear power plants at Indian Point.

It was also resolved to send this request -- that such hearings and determination proceed without further delay, and if possible, before reactivation of Indian Point Units 2 and 3 This resolution is a result of concern for the safety and health of the members of our community, which we believe is threatene:1 by operation of the Indian Point Units with the safety problems as suggested by the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Pursuant to a resolution at the same meeting we have also requested the New York City Office of Emergency Preparedness to complete an evacuation plan for our area in the event evacuation is required by a serious accident at Indian Point.

Very truly yours, C{ w q seph Sciandra 4*
