February 22, 1985 Docket Nos.: 50-322 50-329/330 50-413/414 50-440/441 50-445/446 MEMORANDUM FOR:
Chairman Palladino Commissioner Roberts Commissioner Asselstine Commissioner Bernthal Commissioner Zech FROM:
Hugh L. Thompson, Director Division of Licensing
SUBJECT:
BOARD NOTIFICATION 85-018 TRANSCRIPT OF MEETING HELD ON FEBRUARY 11, 1985, BETWEEN THE NRC AND THE TRANSAMERICA DELAVAL, INC.
(TDI) DIESEL GENERATOR OWNERS GROUP In accordance with procedures for Board Notifications, this information is being provided directly to the Commission. The appropriate Boards and Parties are being informed by copy of this memorandum. This information is relevant to all facilities that have diesel generators manufactured by TDI including Shoreham, Midland, Catawba, Perry, and Comanche Peak which are currently before the Commission.
On February 11, 1985, the NRC and its contractor, Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratory (PNL), met with the TDI Owners Group (0G) to discuss PNL's findings and conclusions with regard to the Phase I program and to discuss any outstanding questions which PNL had for the Owners Group. The Phase I program is a review of sixteen TDI diesel components with design or n.inu-facturing concerns.
A discussion of each of the sixteen components and a set of viewgraphs used by PNL is included in Enclosure 2.
The primary area of disagreement between PNL and the OG is in the surveillance needed to assure continued satisfactory performance of the components. As a result of the discussion, a better under-standing of each others position was developed and PNL indicated that they would consider the OG comments prior to finalizing the Phase I program technical evaluation reports.
