RESPONSE TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON REACTOR SAFEGUARDS LETTER ON THE DRAFT SECY PAPER POPULATION-RELATED SITING CONSIDERATIONS FOR ADVANCED REACTORS
Dear Dr. Riccardella:
I am responding to your letter dated October 7, 2019 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML19277H031), in which the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) provided its findings and recommendations on the staffs draft SECY paper Population-Related Siting Considerations for Advanced Reactors (ADAMS Accession No. ML19203A219). In the letter, the ACRS provided summary conclusions and a recommendation on possible approaches to addressing population-related siting considerations in guidance documents for advanced reactors.
The staff benefited from its interactions with the ACRS on this topic, and we appreciate the insights offered by the members. The staff will take those insights into consideration in finalizing the SECY paper and, if pursued, during the development of the related guidance documents.
Sincerely,
/RA/
Ho K. Nieh, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation cc: Chairman Svinicki Commissioner Baran Commissioner Caputo Commissioner Wright SECY
