NOV 171980 MFJ10RANDUM FOR:

Raymond F. Fraley, Executive Director Advisory Comittee on Reactor Safeguards FRCM:

L. S. Rubenstein, Assistant Director for Core and Containment Systems Division of Systems Integration, NRR

SUBJECT:

ACRS OPINION OF "IMPORTANT TO SAFETY

  • TER'1I50 LOGY In the course of developing testimony for a recent hearing, the staff developed some specific definitions for " safety grade," " safety related," and 'important to safety." These tems have general applicability and we are considering recormanding them for, at least, NRR-wide usage.

In accord with our telephone conversation of this week, we would like to obtain an ACRS opinion of the proposed terminology. If you agree, please circulate it to the Comittee for that purpose.
