Dear Dr. Briner:

Packaging, transport and disposal of low-level radioactive waste has been the subject of heightened concern and discussion by Federal and State governments and the private sector in recent months.

A number of steps have been taken to improve safety from the point of waste origin to the point of final disposal.

however, there remains a number of operational problems; the resolution of which could lead to further safety improvements and efficiency.

The State of f4evada has proposed a meeting to identify and seek practical solutions to problems which waste generators, transporters, collectors, disposal site operators, and regulatory agencies might be experiencing.

The Nuclear Regulatory Cormiission (fiRC) Supports the State in this effort and has agreed to assist in the meeting.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Hyatt-Lake Tahoe at incline Village, Nevada on February 20 and 21,1980.

You are invited to partici-pate, along with others who are involved in the many facets of low-level waste management.

Attached is a list of problem areas.

You will be requested at the meeting to identify specific issues falling within these problem areas and to propose solutions if you have them.

Sleeping rooms have been blocked for the nights February 19, 20 and 21 with departure on February 22.
