Dr. Abraham Schwebel Chief, Health Physics Section Washington, D. C.

20234 Gentlemen:

362 Enclosed is.'!RC Materials License No. S!!M-1-M which has been renewed for a period of five years.

The license conditions have been discussed with and agreed to by Dr. Schwebel, NBS, and Mr. J. C. Delaney of my staff.

The Materials and Plant Protection Amendment issued pursuant to 10 CFR Parts 70 and 73 is not affected by this licensing action and remains in effect.

Your application for license renewal requested an exemption from the provisions of 10 CFR 70.24 for certain areas at your facility. Such an exemption would relieve you from the requirement of having a criticality alarm system in these areas.

Because of the quantities and forms of materials in these areas the staff has determined that you have shown good cause for being granted the exemption and that granting such an exemption will not endanger public life or property or the common defense and security and is otherwise in the public interest.

Sincerely,

/7
