Subject:
Arkansas Nuclear One-Unit 1 Docket No. 50-313 License No. DPR-51 Automatic Reactor Coolant Pump Trip During Small Break LOCA (File:
1510.1)
Gentlemen:
Your letter, December 18, 1979, provided conceptual approval of a design to trip the reactor coolant pumps automatically using coincident input signals of low RCS pressure and low RCP current / power.
This proposed design was required per IE Bulletin 79-05C.
In addition, your letter requested extensive. justification for correlation of RCP current / power and void fraction as well as justification for the RCP current / power s etpoi nt.
We have reviewed the scope of work required to address the Staff's concerns and nave determined that a review of other RCP trip designs is desirable prior to initiating any analysis effort requested by the Staff.
Following this review, which is expected to be completed by February 29,
~
1980, the Staff will be ddvised of the results of the review and our planned followup actions.
Very truly yours, Davi) 0- (
