Dear Mr. Reid:

Paragraph 3.1.5(2) of the Fire Protection Safety Evaluation Report (SER) attached to License Amendment No.19, dated February 28, 1978, describes the following modification:

" Upgrade the metal panels above fire doors between fire areas 14 and 71/1 and between fire area 36 and 71/3 to be equivalent to the fire door."

The District request that this paragraph be rewritten to state the following:

" Upgrade the metal panel above fire doors between the fire areas listed below to be equivalent to the fire door."

14 and 71/3 29 and 71/2 36 and 71/1 This change in wording is required to correctly indicate where the metal panels must be upgraded.

Paragraph 3.1 of the SER requested design details be submitted to the NRC for approval for the modification prooosed in Paragraph 3.1.5(2).

The design details are listed below based on the District's proposed rewording:

Design Details The metal panels above the fire docrs between fire areas 14 and 71/3, 29 and 71/2, and 36 and 71/1 have been upgraded to be equivalent to fire door.

The actual rating of each panel is listed below.

Mr. Reid February 8,1980 Panel Between Rating 14 and 71/3 One hour 29 and 71/2 Three hour 36 and 71/1 Three hour The rating of the panels was obtained by constructing the panels to the same standards as the fire door. Thin was documented with certificate of conformance from the manufacturer.

For the District to meet the completion requirement at the end of the refueling outage, stated in Table 3.1 of the SER, the District request that the NRC comment and/or approve this modification by February 30, 1980.
