i February 14, 1980 Docket Nos. 50-213 50-245 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attn:

D. L. Ziemann letter to W. G. Counsil dated Lanuary 1,1980.
Gentlemen:
Haddam Neck Plant Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 1 SEP - Anchorage and Support of Safety-Related Electrical Equipment In Reference (1), Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO) and Northeast Nuclear Energy Company (NNECO) were advised of recent Staff concerns relative to the anchorage and support of safety-related electrical equipment. As a result, the Staff requested an assessment of the capability of all safety-related electrical equipment to resist seismic forces and that remedial measures be implemented to increase safety margins. The Staff further requested an action plan for resolution of this issue. Accordingly, the following information is provided.
The action plan can be summarized by the following steps:
(1) A list of all safety-related electrical equipment will be developed.
(2) The equipment identified in Item (1) will be surveyed / reviewed to determine what anchorage currently exists.
(3) The adequacy of the existing anchorage will be determined by the use of original plant design data as cceeptance criteria.
It is noted that completion of the above tasks, including implementation of any modifications which may be identified, by the dates requested in Reference (1),
raay prove to be impractical.
With respect to the NRC concern regarding non-seismic ancilliary items, CYAPCO and NNECO note that adequate housekeeping measures governing the use and storage of such equipment currently exist. Miscellaneous equipment is not pennanently stored in areas adjacent to seismic Category I equipment, unless it is in use. All practical measures are taken to ensure that these intervals are minimized.
