Preparations for initial through refueling in progress.

The first fuel element was January 31 removed at 1600 hours0.0185 days <br />0.444 hours <br />0.00265 weeks <br />6.088e-4 months <br /> on January 29.
Refueling was in progress with the core partially removed to storage in the fuel building on January 31.
Major Safety Related Maintenance - January, 1980 Beaver Valley Power Station Unit No. 1 is presently shutdown for refueling and major modifications. Modifications are performed as construction activities rather than strictly as maintenance work.
The following major modifications were performed or were in progress during January, 1980, 1.
Removal of the 1\\ Low Head Safety Injection Pump fo inspection and overhaul.
Reassembly will include the installation of vortex eliminators to the pump suction.
2.
Removal of Bergen-Paterson large bore snubbers for testing and seals replacement.
3.
Removal of the Quench Spray Pumps for shipment to the pump vendor. The pumps will be overhauled and larger impellers will be installed to increase the pump flow.
4.
Disassembly of the steam-turbine-driven auxiliary feedwater pump for inspection and overhaul.
5.
Disassembly of the 3A motor-driven auxiliary feedwater pump for inspection and overhaul.
6.
Disassembly of the low-pressure turbine casings for inspection of the turbine rotors.
Inspection revealed the presence of cracks in the rotor assemblies, requiring replacement of the rotors.
7.
Baseplate inspections and repairs for all systems required to perform refueling operations were completed January 25th.
Inspection of the remaining baseplates is in progress.
