Dear Mr Seidle:

On November 27, 1979, Daniel construction forces reported to Kansas Gas and Electric Company that they had discovered some 3 inch nuts with imperfect threads. This was reported to Mr Oberg of your office on the same date.

These nuts, which were supplied by Southern Bolt Company, are to be used as part,of the NSSS embed srpports. At the present time it is unclear if the subject nuta vould actually have a sig-nificant impact on safety; however, Daniel International and Bechtel Power Corporation are currently involved in further inspections and analysis in order to make such a safety evalua-tion. Should the analysis indicate that a significant deficiency exists, a report will be issued as required by 10CFR50.55(e) regu-lations. We anticipate that the safety evaluation will be completed by March 1, 1980, at which time we will inform you of the results.

Please advise if you need additional information.

Very truly yours, if a fft/ N GLKoester/kl V0210 0 OR 201 N. Market - Wichita, Kansas - Mail Address: P. O. Box 208 / Wichita, Kansas 67201 - Telephone: Mes Cmde (316) 264-1111
