FW: Vogtle LAR-19-014 Audit question on Conceptual Design in Title of Calculation I am sending this email below to ADAMS to document that the calculation in question that includes the words conceptual design is in fact an official, complete, final, design-basis document.

Billy,
1. You may place my e-mail below into ADAMS.
2. The document is available in the Electronic Reading Room, so we will not request Westinghouse to provide a printed version of the document for review in office. Im sorry for this inconvenience.

RE: RE: RE: Vogtle LAR-19-014 Audit question EXTERNAL MAIL: Caution Opening Links or Files Ryan,

2 I have 2 issues on this APP-2100-CDC-001:

1) How can we document that the conceptual design Calc is a final document? Can I enter your 10.9.19 email into ADAMS (this would be needed in support of the audit report).
2) Can you please mail this calculation to me and I will get to the reviewer, who is Pravin? We can promise to destroy or mail it back to you when were done. We would typically ask to then review it in person, but in this case the reviewer is also taking Branch Chief responsibilities, albeit on the short term, but doesnt have time for onsite visit.

Please let me know.

[External_Sender] RE: RE: Vogtle LAR-19-014 Draft Audit Plan input SEB.docx Yes. It is. All documents provided in our list are signed by all necessary parties and archived in WECs document system per procedure.

RE: Vogtle LAR-19-014 Draft Audit Plan input SEB.docx

Billy, Sorry for the delay. WEC provided the following explanation:

APP-2100-CDC-001 is design basis but more detailed missile barrier design may show up in the other supporting documents.

The LAR references APP-2100-CDC-001 for the claim 0.0214 inch is the minimum steel thickness to prevent perforation from the impacts of a 1 steel sphere traveling at 105 mph. The LAR then compares the minimum perforation thickness to the thickness of the MSSV vent stacks, cactus arm, and drip pan and concludes that the MSSV vent stack (including cactus arm/drip pan) operability is maintained after impact from 1

3 sphere. APP-2100-CDC-001 Section 5.1.2.1 is probably the only section they need to look at if they are interested in seeing the calculation for perforation thickness.

As referenced at the end of this explanation, the one section would probably be all that needs to be reviewedthis is the kind of thing we could help provide focus to the staff with during an audit kickoff as I offered before. Please let me know if you have any questions and the list of names for the electronic reading room as soon as you are ready so that I can start the process of getting that set up with WEC.

Thanks, Ryan Henderson Licensing Office: 205-992-6426 Cell: 205-613-0342
